About social media marketing

What is social media marketing?

Social media marketing is when you use platforms like Instagram and Facebook to build relationships, raise awareness, and grow trust with your audience over time. It includes posting helpful content, sharing stories, responding to comments, and showing the human side of your business. For example, if you’re a florist, social media marketing could include posting photos of your flower arrangements, sharing behind-the-scenes videos of your prep, and giving tips for caring for blooms at home.

Why is social media marketing important for small businesses?

Social media helps small businesses build visibility, trust, and connection with the people who matter most – your customers. With a strategic approach and confidence in the appropriate methods, platforms such as Facebook and Instagram are powerful tools for showcasing your expertise, telling your story, and encouraging word-of-mouth referrals. Even with a small following, regular and engaging content can make a real difference.

Can social media really help me attract local customers?

Yes! With the right content and a few simple tactics, such as hashtags, location tags and community engagement, you can reach people nearby who are actively looking for what you offer. I’ll show you how to make the most of social media for local marketing without needing to be online all day. I’ve helped small business owners build local audiences when that was right for them and brands to build global audiences (if that’s what they wanted).

What does a social media marketing coach do?

A social media marketing coach helps you understand how to use platforms such as Instagram and Facebook more effectively for your business. I guide you through strategy, building a customer profile, content ideas and storytelling, planning and confidence-building so you can market your business in a way that feels doable and authentic. Think of it as teaching you how to fish, rather than handing you the fish. I build your skills and knowledge so that you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

How is it different to a social media manager?

A social media manager usually takes over and runs your accounts for you, creating the content, scheduling posts, and engaging on your behalf. In contrast, in my coaching and training, I work with you to improve your own confidence, knowledge and consistency, so you can run things yourself (or outsource wisely later on). Coaching is a more empowering, educational experience that’s especially useful for small business owners who want to stay involved but just need a bit of structure and strategic support.

What if I need a halfway house between coach and manager?

I have the ideal solution! It’s my Social Media Co-Pilot service, in which I act as a marketing consultant. I support you on what to post and how to post it. It’s a live, guided, done-with-you experience. It grows your confidence and skills AND helps you become consistent. Social Media Co-Pilot meetings are one-off sessions that you can book as and when you need them. They work even better if you’re local as I can visit you and sit with you in-person. I bring my advice, suggestions and expertise, while you create and post the content.

I’m not sure if I should get coaching or outsource my social media marketing to a manager or agency – what do you think?

It depends on your resources in terms of time and money. Coaching will help if you want to grow your confidence and skills to run your small business social media Page(s) yourself. You can then develop a better understanding of marketing strategy and how your social media complements other business marketing efforts. Being in control of your brand voice and adding authentic personality are powerful gifts you can bring!

Outsourcing your marketing to a manager or agency often requires more investment in the longer term, though relieving the pressure to keep up with consistent marketing can be priceless for some.

I recommend considering your options carefully. Make sure you pass your marketing responsibility to the right person or team to avoid any later headaches. I work with specialist marketing managers who are trusted partners and am happy to recommend them, if needed.

About using social media

Will you help me decide if I’m using the right platforms for my business?

Of course. It’s important to understand what each platform has to offer and the commitment involved to create consistent content, as well as your small business goals. The key is remembering which platform your target audience is using (and for what purpose). This is one of the first steps we’ll discuss in coaching. We’ll make sure your social media strategy fits your needs.

Can you help me make my content perform better on Instagram or Facebook?

Yes, usually. In my personalised 1-to-1 marketing coaching and Social Media Co-Pilot services, I’ll tell you how. I tailor my advice to your individual needs as a business owner, your audience, and your product/service offering. My support helps you determine appropriate measures of “better” (or even “best”) performance, along with what constitutes authenticity and value that audiences crave. We’ll explore what works best on the relevant platform and find your comfort zone.

Do I really need to use Instagram Reels or Stories to grow my account?

My social media coaching will help you understand the value and techniques for these, and more! They can be extremely useful tools if used strategically, though they aren’t suitable for every business or every goal. Even if Reels and/or Stories are right for you, you don’t have to use them straight away. It’s more important to build confidence and skills that are manageable for consistency. I can help ease you into appropriate social media marketing methods when you're ready, with simple, non-scary ways to get started.

I don't have a big following – can social media still help my business?

Absolutely. A smaller, engaged audience can be more powerful than a large, quiet one. In fact, a big audience may contain fewer ‘ideal’ customers/clients and a larger proportion of people who are more difficult to target. If your posts connect with the right people, which is especially relevant for local businesses, they can lead to loyal buyers, word-of-mouth referrals, and real results. My coaching and training will help you focus your messaging toward the right audience, whether your current audience is small, large or even yet-to-be-discovered.

How do I come up with content ideas without spending hours on it?

That’s where planning tools, prompt-based strategies and (appropriate) re-purposing all come in. I teach simple methods to smooth and speed up the process of coming up with useful content ideas. Ones that are tailored to your business, your aims and the time you have available for thinking and creating. You’ll stop staring at a blank screen and start posting with purpose and ease.

What about social media videos… do I really have to do them?

Of course not! I never recommend methods that aren’t right for you or your small business. Instead, I advise on the tactics that I know will give you the best results to achieve strategic outcomes, which doesn’t always mean video! It’s very rare that a preferred/best practice option is the only option, so you can opt for a Plan B route even if video is the Plan A.

Equally, you might decide you’re not ready for video yet. Maybe it’ll follow later once you’re more confident, or you need a process of slower steps to learn social media videos without going the whole hog of talking to camera in person. If so, I’d love to help you work out what those steps look like. Everyone can benefit from ideas and tools to make it less intimidating while learning the ropes.

Can you help me create a content plan – a calendar of what to post and when?

Yes, that’s often something I do to support small business owners. It’s a job that’s best done together, rather than me creating your plan and leaving you to implement it. Whether in coaching or in my Social Media Co-Pilot sessions, we’ll map out a simple, clear content calendar that suits your business goals and time availability. Plus, I’ll give you ideas on how to get those messages across to engage your ideal audience. You’ll go away knowing exactly what to post, when, and why.

I don’t know how to balance personal content while still being professional – can you help me with this?

It’s often a tricky balance to strike but you can define your brand voice and values without the need for personal or private details. It typically involves sharing authentic stories and experiences as well as behind-the-scenes snippets, all of which add personality to your social media marketing business Page(s). In developing your content ideas, whether in my coaching or Social Media Co-Pilot service, I help you find a good balance that’s right for you, that still drives engagement and avoids any need for oversharing.

Will you help me write or design posts if I’m stuck?

Definitely! I can guide you through writing captions for your posts, advise on creating photos and videos, or even use tools such as Canva to design graphic visuals together. You don’t have to do it alone – my Social Media Co-Pilot service is the best option in this case, and it is all about getting the work done with support.

About your coaching and training services

What’s the difference between your workshops and your coaching sessions?

Workshops are group-based and focus on a specific topic, such as Instagram Reels or Canva for Beginners. They can be online (Zoom) or in-person. They’re great for learning new skills in a friendly, supportive setting. Coaching sessions are 1-to-1 and are entirely tailored to your business. This is ideal if you want personalised support, accountability, or help applying what you already know.

What topics do your workshops cover?

Each workshop dives into one practical area to help with your marketing. Past topics have included Instagram Reels, Canva, content planning, and using AI. The topics are designed to make small business marketing feel less overwhelming. These classes are designed with beginners in mind and always include plenty of time for questions. I use hands-on demos with an overhead camera pointing at my phone so you can really see what’s happening. You’ll come away with clarity and new skills you can apply straight away.

Do I need to have experience to join a workshop?

Not at all! My workshops are beginner-friendly and jargon-free, with a relaxed and welcoming vibe. Whether you're brand new or have dabbled with social media before, you’ll feel supported and never left behind.

Can you tailor coaching to my specific type of business?

Absolutely. Coaching is all about you. Whether you’re a maker, wellness practitioner, freelancer or shop owner, I’ll tailor everything to your goals, audience and content style. It’s practical, down-to-earth support that meets you where you are.

How long are the one-off coaching sessions, and what’s included?

My one-off intensive sessions are the Power Hour and Half-Day Intensive. Respectively, they last around 60 minutes and 2.5 hours. Each is packed with practical advice, content ideas, and focused support. We’ll have a chat beforehand (usually on Zoom) so I can do prep work and focus on tailoring any session to your needs. Then you’ll receive a follow-up summary afterwards, with clear action steps. These fast-fix sessions are ideal if you need a boost of clarity and motivation.

What happens during a coaching programme?

We work together over 4, 8 or 12 sessions, giving you space to learn, apply and build confidence as you go. It’s perfect if you want ongoing support with strategy, content creation or accountability. You’re able to go away and practice in between our meetings and I offer suggestions and feedback as you progress. We’ll track your progress, tweak your approach, and celebrate the wins – big or small.

About confidence and consistency

Can you help me feel less overwhelmed with social media?

Definitely. Many of my clients feel this way at first, and it’s something we work through together. Maybe you’re a total social media beginner, having never used it before. Perhaps you’ve been trying to make business posts on your Page(s) but are ready to stop ‘winging it’ and want to develop an approach that’ll deliver specific results… whatever you lack in confidence right now, I’ll break things down for you. With bite-sized, manageable steps and loads of reassurance and support along the way, you’ll soon move forward. You’re not expected to know it all; just to start where you are.

How do I stay consistent with posting when I’m already so busy?

Consistency is important, it’s true. Though that doesn’t mean posting every day. It means showing up regularly in a way that works for you. I can help you create a realistic plan, build a simple content routine, and use suitable tools such as repurposing or scheduling that’ll take the pressure off. It’s all about working smarter, not harder.

I’m not tech-savvy – can I still make good content for Instagram and Facebook?

Yes, 100%! You don’t need fancy tools or tech knowledge to create effective posts. I’ll show you easy, beginner-friendly ways to set up your Page(s), create great visuals, videos, and written captions, and how best to use tools. For example, Canva is great for professional-looking visuals, and there are tricks within the platforms that avoid the need for extra software or fancy apps. You’ll be surprised how quick and easy marketing can become with a bit of guidance.

About the practicalities

Do I have to sign a contract for any of your coaching services?

For my intensive 1-to-1 coaching sessions, there’s no contract. Instead, I send a set of guidelines to help you better understand the process. For these sessions I require payment upfront to cover my preparatory work, plus applicable expenses such as transport or meeting room booking fees. For my longer coaching programmes, there is a contract. It’s to give us both clarity and security in terms of what’s expected (and what isn’t!). It’s a legal document but it’s not long or full of scary jargon. It includes an exit clause, if it should be needed.

How do I pay for your services and when?

I require payment upfront for my coaching services (the intensive sessions and short programmes) as well as the Social Media Co-Pilot sessions. I ask for payment no less than two days before our meeting. This allows me time to prepare fully for our meeting, as well as cover any transport costs if our session is in-person. I take payment by bank transfer or debit/credit card.

I’m ready to improve my social media – how do I get started?

Brilliant! You can start by requesting a free Discovery Call or sending me a DM on my Instagram if you prefer. Whether you want training, coaching or hands-on support, I’ll help you take the next step with clarity and confidence. If I can’t help you right now, or if I know someone who’d be a better fit, I’ll be sure to point you in the direction of someone else. I have a few trusted partners in my address book. Alternatively, check for my upcoming free workshops (and your eligibility) on the Cool Ventures website.
