Ruth Southorn takes a break with a cup of tea after helping a small business client improve their social media marketing.

About Ruth

Social media marketing makes your business more visible and can generate more enquiries. So you can make more sales.

But… there are only so many hours in the day!

That’s why I started Swallowtail Social. I wanted to help small business owners spend less time on social media and get better results.

I learned how to do this over many years. When I worked in a busy office job, I had to fit social media around my many other deadlines.

So I take a pragmatic approach to helping business owners. Social media only works if you can make it work alongside your customers, admin and personal life.

With my help, I’m confident you can.

The Swallowtail butterfly was the inspiration for Ruth Southorn's social media coaching business.

Why ‘Swallowtail’?

I chose the name Swallowtail Social because the swallowtail butterfly is so distinctive.

That’s what I want for you.

You don’t need to be on social media all the time. You just need to be visible, memorable and clear.

Marketing also needs to be manageable as part of your busy schedule – to become light and flowing, like the swallowtail.

I want you to build a presence that attracts the right audience. Your message really connects with them. And when you do that, your marketing will really start to fly!

My Background

I started my career in the publishing industry and became an editor of several craft magazines.

When social media became part of everyday work life, it was my job to promote the magazine and interact with readers on Facebook and our other marketing channels.

By doing this for over a decade, I learned how to grow an audience using social platforms, and create highly engaging content alongside my other responsibilities.

I later moved into the education technology sector, promoting online games and learning resources to digital audiences.

This gave me valuable, hands-on experience in marketing strategy, audience growth and content marketing.

What I Do Today

Today, I work with sole traders, private companies and organisations to help them use social media more effectively. My coaching programmes can be online or in-person, depending on the distance and your preference.

I also provide business support workshops and 1-to-1 sessions on behalf of the West of England Combined Authority and other local councils. I deliver both online and in-person workshops.

My approach combines professional marketing expertise with practical, real-world experience and current best practices.

What It’s Like To Work With Me

I’m a firm believer in the power of social media to grow your business, but I know it’s not right for everyone. Not every approach will suit every business.

That’s why it’s so important to chat to you first, to get an idea of your goals and challenges.

Everybody has different needs. Like many of my other clients, you may wish to start with a coaching session and then follow up with my Co-Pilot service so that we can develop your social media together.

Applying methods that suit your chosen strategy, consistently, will be when your activity really starts to pay off.

Either way, you won’t be tied into a long-term contract. I want you to succeed. It’s a win-win for both of us.
